The BMW i8 really shook up not only the sports car world when it arrived in 2014, but also the car world in general. It’s one of the most crucial cars of the last decade and marks an achievement of true innovation in terms of design, performance and efficiency by BMW. In years to come we could even look back on this car as the one that saved the supercar thanks to this enticing blend.
Whichever wheel and colour combination you opt for, it turns heads wherever it goes thanks to narrow LED headlights, spaceship-style rear lights, elegant curves, sweeping flying buttresses and gullwing doors all make for a low-slung car with more presence than almost anything else on the road. The hybrid powertrain boasts 357bhp and 570Nm of torque and, as a result, the i8 will blast from 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 155mph.
The owner of this new 2015 BMW i8 was determined to protect his investment, so booked it in for our ultimate protection package which consists of our Gtechniq CS Black New Car Protection Detail combined with our Ultimate Paint Protection Film.
The wheels were removed from the vehicle and coated with Gtechniq C5 Alloy Wheel Armour which provides a barrier against brake dust and road grime build up and the tyres were dressed with Gtechniq T1.
Our New Car Detailing treatment includes a single stage machine polish which was all that was required to remove the light defects that were present in the paintwork. This was done using various machine polishers combined with a polishing pad and Sonax Perfect Finish Polish.

Client requested Xpel paint protection film be applied to some areas of car such as the lower rocker panels, side mirrors and front bumper to protect these vulnerable areas from stone chips. This was done after the machine polishing stages were all completed.
XPEL’s Ultimate Paint Protection Film combines best-in-class durability and clarity not previously available in the market. With its very low surface energy, Ultimate sheds contaminants that would otherwise stain or yellow conventional films. In addition, the clear coat employs special elastomeric polymers that “heal” over time eliminating swirl marks and other fine scratches without having to do anything.This product carries a 10 year warranty against, yellowing, cracking, peeling, staining, and hazing, and reimburses both film and labour in the unlikely event of a failure.
With the paintwork now perfect and the paint protection film applied it was given a final wipe down with Spies Hecker 7010 to remove any last traces of silicone and polish residue. This allows the sealant to form the highest number of bonds possible with the substrate, ensuring the maximum performance, longevity and durability of the sealant.
In this instance the customer had requested the car be protected with Gtechniq CS Black: this comprises of an initial layer of Gtechniq Crystal Serum left to cure before being over coated with two layers of EXO. Crystal Serum provides a tough, dual layer barrier which protects the substrate from swirls, fallout and UV as well as being virtually impervious to high and low pH chemicals. Crystal Serum comes with a 7 year guarantee!

The plastics and exterior trim were coated with Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer. Unlike many trim protectors, the nanotechnology-based formulation of C4 means it does not wash away with the rain or during the weekly wash. Typically one application will provide up to 24 months protection from harsh chemicals, industrial and environmental fallout as well as UV fading.
The windows were cleaned and then sealed using Gtechniq G1 ClearVision Smart Glass; a hydrophobic barrier which encourages rain water to bead and blow away when driving in wet weather conditions.
The interior leather was cleaned with LTT Auto Foam, a rich water based foam cleaner specifically formulated for deep cleaning auto leather. Once clean the seats were then given two coats of LTT Leather Guard Protector to protect against stains, spillages and dye transfer.
