On the surface, the BMW M2 Competition looks like a lightly fettled version of the standard M2 car. The biggest change is found under the bonnet, where the M2’s old turbocharged straight-six, which could trace its roots back to the unit in the fairly run-of-the-mill M135i, has been replaced by the full-fat, BMW Motorsport developed engine from the M4. While it has the same capacity as before, the new motor is a far more focused piece of kit, featuring twin turbochargers, a bespoke six-into-one exhaust system, and a heavy-duty cooling set-up. The results are startling, with power rising from 365bhp to 404bhp, and torque swelling by 50Nm to 550Nm.
The owner of this stunning BMW M2 Competition in Long Beach Blue wanted to give his new purchase the very best start to life and get it well protected from the elements so booked it in for our New Car Preparation & Protection Detail along with application of Xpel’s self healing Paint Protection Film.
Owner had the dealership deliver the car to straight to us so the work could be carried out prior to the car being PDI’d (vehicle is still in transport mode for those wondering about the ride height)
Each project begins with a thorough cleaning and decontamination of every surface of the car. We need to ensure that no loose dirt and contaminant migrate in to the areas being covered in film. We also need to make sure that all bonded contaminants are removed from the paint. We do this through several wash stages using Gtechniq Citrus Foam, G-Wash Shampoo, W6 Iron Remover, and use of a clay bar.
Once the paint and the rest of the car are completely clean, we can evaluate the paint. Even a brand new cars finish can be improved through fine polishing.
Once the paint is refined and looking it’s best, it’s time to keep it that way!! First up is the installation of Xpel Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film.
Xpel Ultimate Paint Protection Film, is an 8.5 mm thick dual layer urethane that is designed to absorb the impact of road debris and keep it from chipping and damaging the paint. If you want a worry free driving experience, so your car can be driven hard without absolutely ruining the paintwork then PPF is for you
We use the Xpel DAP Design Software to custom design coverage for each vehicle. The XPEL platform provides us perfectly designed and fitting patterns for every inch of the car. We then go in and custom manipulate those patterns to extend edges, increase coverage, and hide the film anywhere we can for an effective and nearly invisible installation. Using the software creates perfect uniformity in coverage (perfect circles around parking sensors and the exact same lines on the passenger side as driver’s).

Although the whole rear panel was covered in film we fitted another piece of film on top in front of the rear wheels for additional protection as this area is a very high impact area.
All edges were wrapped where possible for a seamless and invisible look

With the installation of the film complete we then set about protecting the rest of the car.
The wheels, brake calipers and exhaust tips were coated with Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour.
The windshield and glass were treated with Gtechniq G1 Clearvision Smart Glass which is a highly repellent glass specific coating to aid in visibility during poor weather
Once all the paint protection film was installed the film was given several hours to settle before being protected with two coats of Gtechniq EXOv4. EXO leaves an unbelievably slick & hydrophobic surface to repel dirt as well as making regular wash maintenance quick and easy.
This BMW M2 Competition can now be driven worry free of stone chip damage and look its best for years to come.
